The Challenge

This series had a complicated premise: teach kids 8-12 years old how basic electronics work, as well as give them a cool device that included fairly complicated assembly instructions for the given project.

My idea was to present it as a very detailed notebook, color-coded so that it is easy to see which pages explain the science (yellow) and which the assembly (white).

Headlines are on torn-out post-it notes, and throughout the notes therea variety of doodles: diagrams explaining the science, instructions on how to build the device, or just silly cartoons. Each spread of the notebook pages were Photoshop files with over a dozen layers each.

I also designed the packaging for the series, including full wrap, a display of all of the pieces, plus a peek-a-boo of what was inside to convince people to pick it up. And it worked! This series was one of the best sellers of the season!
